CMAR RFQ issued. DBE Information Session to be held September 26 at LFT Terminal

The Lafayette Airport Commission has issued the Contractor Management at Risk (CMAR) Request for Proposals (RFQ) for the construction of the New LFT Terminal project.  Interested Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) should attend an information session and DBE public hearing on Tuesday, September 26 beginning at 5 pm in the Commission meeting room on the second floor of the LFT terminal.  This is an opportunity for businesses to promote themselves and their services to the prime construction contractor finalists who will be in attendance.  If you are a minority-owned business or woman-owned business certified as a DBE, this is a prime opportunity to let contractors, who will have a DBE goal, know what you have to offer their team.

LFT Opens New Taxiway to Aid General Aviation Tenants

Lafayette Regional Airport has officially opened Taxiway “Mike, ” which gives general aviation tenants and pilots easier access to the main runways at the airport. The $7.1 million project, which was funded with a $6 million Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development grant and $1.1 million of airport money, gives Bell Helicopter direct access to their building where the Bell 525 helicopter is being outfitted.

Bell recently completed $2 million in improvements to their building to accommodate the work.

“The opening of Taxiway Mike opens the door to further expansion on the LFT airfield,” says Executive Director Steven Picou. “There is about 5.35 acres of land adjacent to the taxiway that can be developed for new tenants. Land at the airport is very limited and now that the new taxiway is open that parcel of land will attract attention.”

The new taxiway provides direct access to Runway 11/29, the crosswind runway at the airport.

  • What kind of projects offer potential opportunities for certified DBEs?

Including the New LFT Terminal, the Lafayette Regional Airport is estimated to have as much as $150 million for construction and infrastructure projects over the next 3-to-5 years. The work will be administered under the following:

    • Architecture & Engineering (A/E)
    • Project & Construction Management (PMCM)

The prime contractors selected in each of these three areas will actively seek subcontractors to help them complete these projects.

  • Who should I contact about getting work for my company?

The Lafayette Airport Commission is in the process of selecting A/E, PMCM. The two will be announced at Lafayette Airport Commission public meetings, and the selections will be reported in local media coverage.  DBE-certified businesses, or those going through the certification process, are encouraged to contact those businesses, when they are announced, to promote your services.

  • What is the DBE goal for Lafayette Regional Airport projects?

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has established a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goal of 7.31% for federally funded work.  The Lafayette Airport Commission has decided the 7.31% goal will also apply to all projects no matter the funding source.

  • Why should I apply for DBE certification for my business?

DBE goals apply to projects using federal funds and some state and local projects as well.  In order to assist a prime contractor in reaching their DBE goal, a subcontractor company must be DBE certified.

  • How long does it take to receive DBE certification?

DBE certification is completed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD). Businesses send all completed application forms and materials to LaDOTD and are normally notified if their business has been certified within 6-to-8 weeks.

  • What is the cost and what help in getting certification is available now?
